PRESS RELEASE.
(8th September 2014)
There has been a
change of optometrist (ophthalmic optician) in Birstall. Dr Chris
Hall (57) who practiced in the market-place on Low Lane has taken
early retirement and has been succeeded by Dr Sarah Slade.
On his
retirement Dr Hall commented
“After working
as an optometrist for 36 years (nearly 30 years in Birstall) I have
decided to hang up my ophthalmoscope and take early retirement.
Since I started
here in 1985, following on from my predecessor John Greenwood, it
has been fascinating to watch youngsters grow up, have families of
their own and then bring them in turn to see me for their routine
eye-examinations. It has been a pleasure looking after the visual
needs of all my patients. Indeed it makes me proud to know I have
saved numerous ones from blindness and even a few from dying! This
is why regular eye tests are so important. I’d like to thank all my
loyal regular patients for their support over the years.
I am sure Dr
Slade, who has the same caring professional outlook and higher
qualification as me, will look after all the existing and new
patients equally as well and probably even better than I have! I
know, like myself, she is not interested in just selling spectacles.
She would rather build up an honest long term relationship with her
clientele as “Eyecare Matters”. I am certain she will serve the
people of Birstall and surrounding areas well and I wish her every
success.
As for me, I’m
going to be doing some gardening and odd jobs about the house.
However, most of all I’m looking forward to doing more travelling
and mountain walking. Indeed, early in 2015, my wife and I are
going trekking in the Himalayas to Everest Base Camp. Should be
fun…….”
